¹⁷ “Son of man, I have made you a watchman^(A) for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.^{(B) 18} When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,^(C)’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for^[a] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.^{(D) 19} But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn^(E) from their wickedness^(F) or from their evil ways, they will die^(G) for their sin; but you will have saved yourself.^(H)

²⁰ “Again, when a righteous person turns^(I) from their righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block^(J) before them, they will die. Since you did not warn them, they will die for their sin. The righteous things that person did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.^{(K) 21} But if you do warn the righteous person not to sin and they do not sin, they will surely live because they took warning, and you will have saved yourself.^(L)”

⁸ When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will surely die,^(A)’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for^[a] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.^(B)

¹⁴ If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.^{(A) 15} Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah^(B) on the day of judgment^(C) than for that town.^(D)

¹⁶ “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.^(E) Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.^{(F) 17} Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils^(G) and be flogged in the synagogues.^{(H) 18} On my account you will be brought before governors and kings^(I) as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. ¹⁹ But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it.^(J) At that time you will be given what to say, ²⁰ for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father^(K) speaking through you.

²¹ “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents^(L) and have them put to death.^{(M) 22} You will be hated by everyone because of me,^(N) but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.^{(O) 23} When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.^(P)

²⁴ “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.^{(Q) 25} It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul,^(R) how much more the members of his household!

²⁶ “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.^{(S) 27} What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. ²⁸ Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One^(T) who can destroy both soul and body in hell. ²⁹ Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.^{[a] 30} And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.^{(U) 31} So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.^(V)

³² “Whoever acknowledges me before others,^(W) I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. ³³ But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.^(X)

³⁴ “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. ³⁵ For I have come to turn

³⁷ “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.^{(AA) 38} Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.^{(AB) 39} Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.^(AC)

⁴⁰ “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me,^(AD) and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.^(AE)

⁶ But when they opposed Paul and became abusive,^(A) he shook out his clothes in protest^(B) and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads!^(C) I am innocent of it.^(D) From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”^(E)

²⁶ Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you.^(A)

²⁷ For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.^(A)
